Joan's Biography:

Joan with Heather Duplex and Guruji Joan Hyman teaches yoga across the globe in such far off places like Brazil, Europe, and Australia along with many popular vinyasa flow classes in Los Angeles. She has been teaching for twenty years and began teaching dance and fitness in her hometown of Philadelphia. After earning her Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science from Temple University, she moved to New York City to pursue a dance career. She was introduced to yoga at NY's famous JivaMukti and Om. She began teaching yoga while performing in a show in Las Vegas; here she was introduced to the ashtanga method. Following her love for yoga, she moved to Santa Monica, Ca. in 2002 and completed the Yogaworks Teacher Training with yogaworks co-founder Maty Ezraty and senior iyenger teacher Lisa Walford. She went on to complete her Yogaworks Certification in 2006 and later that year took her first trip to Mysore, India to study with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois at The Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute. She is a dedicated ashtanga practitioner who has studied with all authorized and certified teachers such as Heather Duplex and Prem Carlisi, Kimberly and Noah Williams, and James Bulktivish.

She loves teaching her vinyasa flow classes and has been inspired by leading women teachers Annie Carpenter and Seane Corne. She continues to grow in her teaching by following her heart's intention and opens herself up to experiences that help her evolve in her own life. Her other interests include ayurveda (the science of life), chakras and the energetic body, and cooking healthy vegetarian food. She also loves to travel around the world and learn about other cultures and people.
